Save Water Save Money Ltd of Ruislip, Middlesex won for a hard hitting communications campaign 'Same Difference Save Water' that effectively changed the way its customers use water. The project successfully raised awareness of the importance of water efficiency and led to a positive change in attitudes towards water usage. Judges were impressed by the effective use of X-Factor runners'-up and popular children's icons Same Difference to spearhead the Save Water campaign prior to the release of their first album. The campaign reached an audience of approximately 750,000 via coverage in First News which is distributed in schools across the country.

Lafarge Cement UK won for a water conscious project at its Cauldon Cement Works in Staffordshire where measurable environmental and financial savings were achieved. Judges highlighted the strong water savings achieved by the project, together with how the success was communicated within the business. The project, at a site of special scientific interest and a special area of conservation, replaced the abstraction of water from the nearby River Hamps with a closed system reducing water use from 290,000 down to only 15,000 cubic metres. All works water is now re-circulated internally, with the main 'hub' being a restored shale lake. The new system has reduced flood risks in the local area and provides Lafarge with the control required to contain potential pollution in the event of a major incident within the factory site.

Berkeley Homes of Battersea, London won for its smart solutions in sustainable water use. The West 3 Code for Sustainable Homes Water Test Unit was a five month study in a new build London apartment to ascertain how the different levels of the code for sustainable homes impacts on water usage. At the end of the study occupants were surveyed to obtain their feedback. Analysis of findings highlighted that code 3 is the preferred level with higher levels not always reducing water consumption. This project provides an excellent example of how innovative thinking will be needed to cope with reduced rainfall as a result of climate change and the research offers real insight. Judges were excited by the prospects for the project and impressed at the volume of water the findings look set to save.
